Well made…..by In-sink-erator

Bought this disposer to replace my In-sink-erator Pro 17 batch feed which developed a sticking switch after 11 years. This is an identical disposer except for the Maytag name on it, which made for easier installation. It was made by In-sink-erator and even had an In-sink-erator shipping label on the box. It has a 5 year warranty, so should last a long time. Shipping was fantastic! It shipped (no charge) via UPS on Monday and was delivered the next afternoon. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Super Easy Install

I got a really great price on this item. It came in just a few days and was really easy to install. If you can use a screwdriver and know how to unplug the fridge then you are good…

If your fridge is making a errrrr noise (almost like a loud hum). It is the bearings in the fan motor going out. This affordable part will fix it and ordering it will save you hundreds over a professional.

Also the way I diagnosed it was to take the back of the freezer out. If you take out those two screws and slide the brackets UP that hold the freezer shelf, the back panel just slides UP also.

Spin the blade a little by hand and it will probably work for a little while. I left it that way with all of my food in there and just got the blade spinning each time it made the humming sound, until my evap motor came in.

Fixed good as new now!

Saved an old Kenmore from the scrap heap

Sis went down to our elderly parents basement and was alarmed by the noise the old kenmore fridge in the basement was making and unplugged it because she was afraid of it catching fire. On checking I found that the evaporator fan, in the back of the freezer had bad bearings and was screeching loudly. A replacement fan from the local appliance repair shop was almost $70.Parents did not want to spend big money on an old refrigerator, and they were going to replace it. Found this on amazon and thought why not? Had to do some trimming of the mounting bracket but it works just fine and is very quiet. The old Kenmore cools like new now. If you are buying this I recommend you also check the coil fan, usually located at the bottom of the refrigerator. Be sure that it is free to rotate and blow air over the coils in order for the refrigerator to cool well. Put a drop or two of turbine oil on the shaft where it goes into the motor housing once a year or so to keep it that way. You can buy this stuff locally at your local appliance shop or here on amazon at SEPTLS43479704 – Zoom Spout Oilers I am not affiliate with Amazon, and not an appliance repair professional. However, a professional did tell me NOT to use motor oil for this purpose as the additives gum up the electric motors. Good luck and God Bless.

Bought Unseen – Got the Simple Quality Product I Desired

Firstly, let me say that I bought this as a special order item from the blue box store. My order was something of a gamble due to the relative shortage of online reviews, so I hope that I can be of help to others interested in this product who may be shying away from the same gamble.

Despite the “sight unseen” special order concerns above, my wife and I we were drawn to this model for a couple reasons (in approximately this order):

(1) None of the “in stock” models (at several local retailers) and within our reasonably flexible mid range budget jumped out at us.

(2) The simple & clean look of this appliance was appealing, as was the 5th burner.

(3) After seeing (and barely hearing) my aunt and uncle’s Bosch dishwasher, we definitely wanted one. At the time of our purchase (an entire house worth of appliances), a factory sponsored Bosch promo gave a 10% instant rebate on the purchase of 3+ Bosch appliances. Being fairly resolute on the dishwasher and using the range + matching microwave to round out the package made this price competitive with other generally less expensive brands (the 10% Bosch rebate was a national factory sponsored promotion in addition to the individual retailer’s selling terms).

(4) The Bosch brand isn’t as high end (or as highly priced) as Viking/etc, but does have a solid reputation. However, with fewer and few companies actually making appliances, I didn’t assign much weight to this factor. More on this below.

General Likes:

(1) Works great. It’s simple in design and execution, and lends itself to being used as a tool without annoying distractions. In this day of refrigerators with tablet PCs built into the door, I’m not sure I can offer more significant praise (though this is perhaps more a matter of my simple taste).

(2) The clean, masculine look works well in our simple kitchen. The level and robust cooking grates allow sliding of cookware and have a type of “restaurant” look (if that matters to you).

(3) 5 burners, including an oblong central burner. Due to space/crowding of cookware, I’m not sure how useful this burner is when it comes to heating 5 items at once. However, it does give the ability to use a skillet or long roasting pan under even heat. In fairness, this is more a function of a 30″ range limitation than anything to do with this specific product.

(4) This has to be the quietest convection fan I’ve seen in an oven.

(5) Apart from the 5th burner and convection option, minimal other “features”. I noted this as a “like” simply because this is a nice, but not absurdly expensive, range. I’d rather my money at this price point go toward making a simpler and well performing product.

Negatives:

(1) I’m 95% certain that the Frigidaire Frigidaire Gallery : FGGF3054KF 30 Freestanding Gas Range with 5 Sealed Burners – Stainless Steel is the same chassis with little or no performance improvements. The control panel buttons, size/shape, burner layout, over door vent holes, knob layout, and metal “pan” that houses the burners and cooking grates appear to be the same. Like the Toyota Camry/ES350 scenario, this doesn’t really bother me. In fairness, I actually didn’t notice this (the seemingly identical Frigidaire) until after we bought the Bosch, but I’m not sure it would have affected our buying decision. We like the look of the Bosch better and the overall package deal noted above resulted in us paying barely more than the Frigidaire for this range. I haven’t taken a really close look at the Frigidaire yet, but I’ll update my review if I get a chance to point out any differences. So far it just looks like a styling distinction.

(2) The red display doesn’t look bad, but does look a bit dated. I find it surprising that the cheaper Frigidaire (LGGF3043KF, which I speculate with 95%+ certainty to be the same chassis) has a sleeker looking green display. This red display does match my other Bosch appliances (such as my over the range microwave and dishwasher – though the dishwasher has a display panel that isn’t visible when closed), However, I doubt that it’s likely to match any other modern appliance (i.e. my Samsung fridge that sits a couple feet away has a display that’s a modern blue).

(3) The build quality seems at least as good as anything else I saw at the price point. However, after installing the range (basically sliding it into place and connecting a gas line), I found a stainless screw rolling around in the bottom drawer. I took a cursory look but didn’t see anywhere obvious to reinstall it. For now I left it in the drawer and will get to replacing it later.

At the end of the day, I gave this product 5 stars largely because of how it performs while fulfilling its intended design function. The loose screw was unfortunate, and I may make a warranty call to have it corrected. However, I’m a buyer who will generally deal with a little bit of inconvenience (special order hassle, etc) to get a product with which I am truly satisfied. This one fits the bill.

BOSCH #HGS5053

When we started looking for a replacement for our old gas range, I put in a few hours of research on the Internet and came up with BOSCH. They have a strong reputation for well-built, reliable appliances (and tools), and the customer reviews are for the most part more favorable than for all other brands. There were a few customers who had minor complaints (such as, “the display panel is too sensitive and therefore hard to clean without resetting clock, turning on oven or timer, etc.”) but we have not found any of them to apply to our subsequent experience with our new Bosch range.

We were considering a dual-fuel range with gas cooktop and electric convection oven but chose to go with all gas, with a gas convection oven. We LOVE it! At first we thought that the convection fan didn’t work, but a quick online check with a helpful Sears technician revealed what the manual failed to point out: for this particular model (BOSCH #HGS5053) wait 6 minutes for the fan to start up when preheating in Convection mode.

The range is extremely well made and it looks great, too! The controls are easy to use, and the convection fan is so quiet you won’t know it’s running unless you turn on the oven light and look in through the large glass door panel. Baking is even with no “hot spots” in either Bake or Convection mode. The 5-burner cooktop is nicely designed and easy to keep clean. The oven racks are not as heavy-duty as those on my previous gas range, an ancient Frigidaire, but they’re adequate for the job, and there are more oven rack positions available in these Bosch ranges. It preheats to the set temperature much more quickly than the old Frigidaire did, and maintains it with fewer and shorter burn cycles. We expect to save money on the gas bill with this range.

I would strongly recommend the Bosch HGS5053 if you’re looking to replace your old energy-IN-efficient dinosaur of a gas range!

Design Flaw

Ranges with the oven vents at the top of the door are a major issue. Any spills from the burners go right between the glass in the door. Impossible to clean without taking the door apart. Bosch and other manufacturers need to redesign this soon.

Good but lacking something…

I have had these pads in place for over 1 yer. These vibration pads do an EXCELLENT job of eliminating the transfer of vibrations from the washing machine to the floor but the machine can still vibrate off the pads. The pad’s design absorbs most of the vibrations resulting in much quieter washing machine operation. After a while, the machine will vibrate itself off of the pads and you are back where you started – or worse since the machine will be lopsided on only 2 or 3 pads. Depending on how your washer is arranged, installing these pads on the rear corners can be VERY difficult. I wish they were designed with an indentation for the washer feet to sit in so that I never had to mess with them again. As it is, I am looking for a replacement that will stay under the washer feet AND absorb the vibrations.

The Pads Really Work

The pads really work!! We have a stacked front-load washer and dryer on the second floor of our house. When the washer went into the spin cycle, the house used to shake (it felt like an earth tremor).

The pads didn’t completely eliminate the shaking, but they SIGNIFICANTLY reduced it.

Read the instructions before installing them. There is a top and bottom to the pads. We discovered it after installing, so we had to re-install them.

It’s a great product. It is simple, but it works!! We highly recommend it.

Left a “plasticky” taste to my water

Pro’s:
-slightly higher water volume than the Maytag model
-OK tasting water
-did not leak
-comes with the stick on date stamp, so you know when to change the filter

Cons:
-longer in length than the Maytag, really not an issue for me, but could be depending on your fridge’s shelving.
-I returned this filter because it left a plastic or bitter taste to the water. I fill a quart bottle each day for drinking at work. I was immediately able to taste the difference between this filter and the Maytag one. But, I left it installed hoping that it would go away after a week or so of use. But it didn’t, so I returned it.

It’s not like I’m a picky water drinker either. I’m totally happy with cheap bottled water like Costco’s Kirkland brand more than the expensive stuff like Evian & Fuji and the like. But, the “plasticky” taste was something I really couldn’t live with. I gave it 3 stars because the product worked well and build quality was fine. Taste is subjective, so others might like the water it produces just fine.

This is an amazing piece of shower head engineering. Simple, perfectly executed, and functional. Has 3 settings–a soft rain-like shower, a harder heavier massage-like flow, and a strong fine-gauge stream. It manages to produce a very strong flow from even minimal water pressure, and it includes an accessible and cleanable filter to prevent clogs. I liked it so much, I bought another one for the other shower!

Great Little Showerhead

I purchased this showerhead not really expecting too much, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It really performed well pressure-wise. The rainwater mode (middle setting) is on the mild side, but I use it to soap up as to not waste water. Very easy to switch settings and the jet mode is excellent for rinsing the soap out of my hair. Better yet, I don’t have to keep turning the cold water down to keep the tempurature of the water the same. I am a very fussy person when it comes to my showers and after numerous showerheads, this is the one! Just don’t forget for remove the water restrictor (the little black plastic ring within the filter).

Great Shower Head

This is a great shower head. We like the option for several spray patterns, the look and quality of this shower head. We shopped around and are glad we went with Grohe!!!

Grohe bathroom faucet

I selected the Grohe faucet for quality , looks and function and haven’t been disapointed. I purchased two about a year ago and they work perfectly as you would expect a Grohe faucet to work. Because the footprint is so small, it is very easy to clean. I really like the brushed nickel finish. Don’t mount the faucet too close to backsplash as the pull up sink stopper rises at a backwards angle.

Just right

Picking out faucets for our bathrooms remodel turned out to be a difficult process. We looked at numerous faucets in stores, but there was a limited selection. We wanted something simple and attractive. We had a Grohe faucet in our kitchen that we liked a lot. Finally we ordered one of these faucets from Amazon to look at. It looked good, so we ordered two more.

Now all three faucets are installed, and we are pleased. These are heavy, solid and have silky smooth mechanisms. They look like they will last forever. They don’t leak, like our other Grohe faucet, it is impossible to leave them dripping. The only slight negative is that the brushed nickel shows water spots a bit more than we expected. They are attractive in that form follows function, a simple elegant design. Some modern faucet designs are much more striking then these–they won’t attract attention, but they nonetheless look good. They only cost slightly more than the usual brands that you find in your local building supply store. We are glad we took the time to find these.

A simple and nice faucet

However, its sprout is a bit short, hence, one has to put hands close to the lavatory edge to wash. I wished it was made a bit longer. Amazon has the great price over other places. For that, I love to shop at Amazon.
